Artist Statement: After spending 34 years traveling the world as an engineer, I retired in 2002 and quickly enrolled in the Museum of Fine Art,Houston's Glassell School and continued my deferred quest to become an artist.
Artist Bio:
My personal passion for the simple life in many Mediterranean venues resulted in my painting mostly landscapes or village scenes until studying at Glassell. Forced to branch out in my work to different subjects, styles, media and techniques, I learned to enjoy the journey of exploring new art forms while improving my basic skills. Studying abstract art was both an eye opening and challenging experience. My evolution to painting on acrylic panels was stimulated by some emerging artists' works as well as the mental challenge of painting in reverse. Painting from the back side of the acrylic panel, the artist must build up the work in reverse from the the normal technique, starting with the foreground and working backwards until you add the background last. There is no flexibility to correct or change the painting by painting over it. The necessity to think through and plan my work through each stage before beginning and, yet allow some freedom of expression in the process, challenges both the left and right sides of my brain. So, the journey continues.......
